Mmabatho Public Library, North-West

A public library offers an important service in educating communities. Due to the digital age, library buildings have also needed to modernise, adapt and become multi-functional buildings able to support various initiatives.

This Public library had undergone some major additions and alterations in order to increase it’s service value to the community.

PROJECT DETAILS:
  • Additions and alterations to Mmabatho public library, North-West
  • Consulted on behalf of Van Vuuren and Partners (Pty) Ltd
  • One large flank had been added to cater for approximately 245 additional students.
  • A New book collection area had been created along with new Head librarian and assistant librarian offices.
  • Other new areas consist of public toilets, children’s area, visually impaired area and new board room, staff ablutions and kitchen.
  • The foyer, main collection area as well as the computer area received an overhaul and received fresh aesthetic decor to improve overall ambience.

Sub-District Disaster Management Centre, Mpumalanga

This highly complex project is the flagship of the local municipality. It is packed with high specification equipment ranging from communication systems, specialist electrical installations, renewable energy and fire prevention.

It is a great addition for the local community to deal with all matters relating to emergencies in the area. It also includes a new road section linking up with the existing National road network.

  • Consulted on behalf of Van Vuuren and Partners (Pty) Ltd
  • The project boasts a new emergency vehicle bay, new offices with reception area, new operations-, and tactical room and new guard house. External areas are covered by brick pavers with minimalist landscaping.
  • Other amenities are staff entertainment areas, communal recreation areas, sleeping quarters, ablution facilities, emergency standby plant areas and store facilities.  The building is contained within a high security fence overlooked by a new 40m high telecommunications mast.

‘Pronkertjie’ Complex, Mpumalanga

This 8 unit residential complex offers the ideal starter house for the young professional or small family. It had been built with affordability in mind without compromising on quality.

The 4 separate double storey structures each house two townhouses with covered parking and each a separate BBQ / entertainment area at the top. There is also a covered parking bay for 8 visitors on the garden side.

The residents enjoy a play area for kids with established trees in this neatly kept garden.

New House Camdeboo, Gauteng

We were approached by a property developer / quantity surveyor who asked us to develop a complex of homes in a well established suburb in Pretoria East. The challenging part was to bring in an eclectic mix of country-styles and modern trimmings that offer a tranquil living in a busy suburban area.

The houses are based on a contemporary farm style design with bedrooms leading out onto balconies.

‘Klitzgras’ resort, Mpumalanga

At the entrance of the town of Lydenburg, lies an idyllic resort called “Klitzgras”.  The word “Klitzgras” is a common tongue name for a wild grass that grows in the region. A family enterprise that needed cozy chalet’s and guestrooms that would meet the approval of their patrons, who travel far and wide, to see the splendours of the province.

Many photographers in the area use the resort as a go-to place for their photography.

This bush-veld gem is the ideal home from home.

PROJECT DETAILS:

Resort development consisting of Main house, 2x smaller houses, workshop, office, heated indoor pool, 3x 6 sleeper back packer chalets, 4x 4 sleeper wood cabins, 3x 2 sleeper chalets, one honeymoon chalet, wedding chapel and 3 recreational dams for fishing and small boat rides..

Large entertainment area with fire pit, Lapa and Boma and ample timber decks to enjoy fishing and sunbathing.

The majority of the development had been constructed with ‘koppies klip’ natural stone found on the property. Roofs had been thatched using grass which also came from the property.

 

House Selikats, Gauteng

A newly wed couple was set to build their dream home in the well established area of Faerie Glen in Pretoria. Little did they know how much satisfaction they would find living in their own space.

Building in a established community has it’s challenges however House Selikats has proven to be an excellent addition to the suburb!

PROJECT DETAILS:

This project consists of the main house as well as a bachelor flat downstairs.

This red brick house on the hill has stunning views over Faerie Park and as far as Groenkloof’s Telkom tower.

The house is loaded with green building ideas. From top down, the KLIP-LOK roof sheets consists of Zincalume® offering first-rate corrosion resistance and a lifespan of up to 4 times longer than ordinary galvanised steel.

All infrastructure had been put in place for future use of roof mounted solar panels.

All ceilings are insulated with 40mm thick ISO board, married with LED lights throughout the house.

Both kitchens are serviced by LP gas.

All windows, window frames, external door frames and external doors are made of aluminium.

Water is heated by way of a 4.7kw heat pump. Rainwater is harvested as well as grey water giving an abundance of water available to the already water wise succulent garden.

Internal temperatures can further be cooled or heated by way of inverter type AC units, installed in the house as well as the bachelor flat.

During possible power outages, this property is serviced by an external silent running diesel fuel generator.

To keep the maintenance costs low, external face bricks were used to basically make painting a thing of the past.

The external deck has been built with composite wood decking reducing maintenance costs to almost zero.

House Sanglen, Gauteng

A couple with a growing family wanted to put a modern twist on their Pretoria townhouse. The kitchen needed the most renovation work and this required some inspiration. The living area which is compact, as most town houses are, needed to be opened up a lot more. This was to give the home owners the feeling of a large, open living space.

The end result after a few consultations with the home owners; was a modern, convenient kitchen space and living area fit for the needs of a growing family.

This little semi-detached unit in the Sanglen residential estate was altered by demolishing the old kitchen wall, the lounge was opened up adjoining a quaint little open plan kitchen.

Alterations to this house include: New kitchen, new floor coverings throughout, new guest bathroom as well as en-suite bathroom, new plumbing as well as pipework throughout.

New larger folding stacking doors which leads to a new AL-fresco dining area with a new intimate garden.

Re-decorations and repaint to interior rooms, corridor, stair shaft.
